Tracey Kancachian
Psychologist
Tracey is a registered psychologist who completed her Master of Educational & Developmental Psychology and is working toward endorsement as an Educational & Developmental Psychologist. Her professional background spans school-based psycho-educational assessment and intervention, crisis support, and the integration of animal-assisted therapy into clinical work. This has sharpened her skills in spotting each young person’s unique learning profile, calming big emotions in the moment, and translating evidence into practical supports that work in classrooms, homes and everyday life. A neuro-affirming, trauma-informed, strengths-based lens sits at the core of Tracey’s work. Stims, hyper-focus and deep-dive interests aren’t behaviours to “fix”, They are channels for regulation, joy and growth. Her therapy style is collaborative and playful—fidget toys, Lego builds and sensory supports are welcomed—yet firmly grounded in evidence-based frameworks such as CBT, ACT, Collaborative & Proactive Solutions, attachment principles and mindfulness.
Tracey’s favourite areas of practice are:
• Anxiety, low mood and emotional dysregulation
• Sensory overwhelm and “school-can’t” / school refusal
• Autism, ADHD and PDA profiles
• Specific learning differences and twice-exceptional presentations
Tracey has a keen interest in parent and teacher coaching, plus small-group programs that build resilience, emotional intelligence and self-advocacy. She enjoys psycho-educational and neuro-developmental assessments to be able to highlight a child’s strengths, pinpoint their barriers and guide clear, practical recommendations to help them navigate and thrive at home, school, and within the community. Tracey is a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and the Australian Association of Psychologists Inc (AAPi). She also keeps connected through special-interest groups such as the Australian Society for Autism Research (ASfAR), the Australian Educational & Developmental Psychology Association (AEDPA) and the AAPi Neurodiversity-Affirming Interest Group. Outside the clinic you’ll likely find her knee-deep in craft projects with her kids, exploring bush trails, tending to her garden or fine-tuning the training plan for her next therapy dog.
